What to expect

Our free triage service helps you establish whether an investigation is necessary, or whether you have other options such as pursing informal resolution.

We’ll provide a detailed estimate and timeframe for delivering the report, and we’ll allocate the case to an investigator who is available to start within the timeframe you require.

Your investigator will draft the Terms of Reference for the investigation or use one supplied by you.

They will establish enquiry lines, draft letters, prepare question sets, conduct witness interviews, thoroughly review data sources and evidence.

The report will present all the facts in a simple and straightforward way with no jargon. We will refer to your policies as well as legislative frameworks. The appendices will be clearly referenced and ordered.

In summary, our ACAS-compliant reports clearly set out whether there is a case to answer and help ensure your decisions and outcomes are reasonable and defensible.

Using our excellent understanding of employment law, we can also advise whether to pursue a particular approach or to hold back, or whether to change strategy.

FAQs

Employers are duty-bound to respond to a complaint, concern or issue raised in the workplace with an informed and fair decision about what to do next. Carrying out an investigation and using the report to inform the decision is vital. It will prove that your organisation has acted reasonably if the decision is challenged later on. If you don’t investigate you risk the escalation of the issue, followed by fines and reputational damage and damage to employee relations.

Making sure the investigation is objective, logical and meets best practice standards is vital to ensure managers can clearly determine whether formal or further action is needed.

In some cases you might think that a member of staff is intent on pursuing a case at Tribunal. However, a thorough investigation conducted with a systematic approach often acts as a significant deterrent.

We will respond to your initial enquiry  within 24 hours, and follow it up quickly with an assessment during a confidential discussion over the phone or video call. You’ll then receive a detailed estimate of costs, broken down into each stage.

We start work as soon as you engage us, launching our enquiries while evidence is still fresh and available.

Your experienced investigator will lay out the plan for you so you know when to expect a report, and will keep you updated throughout on costs and timescales.

We have experience of thousands of cases so we can quickly give you a clear and independent appraisal of your position, helping you find options to improve your position and reduce your risks.

To start, we will listen to your case, ask some relevant questions, and give you a clear and honest assessment of the situation. We can then give you an estimate of costs.

Once you’ve signed off on the estimate, an investigator will contact you to take forward the investigation.
